Did Thanksgiving happen? The day was such a blur to me, actually this whole year has been a bit of a blur, but today I realized I have not really thought about the things I am thankful for. At first thought, nothing really stands out. This hasn’t been the best year, and it would definitely be easier for me to list off all of the bad things that have happened rather than trying to find the good, but I do have a great deal to be grateful for.
I am thankful for my family. My family lost two patriarchs this year, my grandfather in March and my great uncle in July. This was a rough time for everyone involved, but also an opportunity for all of us to reunite for the first time in over a decade. I met cousins and relative I had not seen since I was a baby and it was both heartbreaking and beautiful to see my parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins assume their new roles as heads of the family rather than children. I am so thankful for the time I had with my family this year and my only hope is that the next reunions are for weddings and births.
I am thankful for my friends. They are precious to me and have made this year much more bearable.
I am thankful for my job. It is not an ideal one, but it has helped me realize my love of working with children and helping people in general. My career goals have changed drastically this year and I hope to follow through with my new plan in the coming year.
I am thankful for my experiences. Good and bad, I am happy to be living my life, rather than waiting for the perfect opportunity to find me while sitting idly by.
